Wayback Machinedown detector — live outage reports & map
This page is a free, live Wayback Machine down detector and server-status checker. It tells you if Wayback Machine is down or not working right now — aggregating real user reports, an outage map and history, an independent check from our own servers, and whether Wayback Machine is down for everyone or just you, with what else goes down with it.
About Wayback Machine& what an outage looks like
The Wayback Machine is the Internet Archive's web archive — the part of archive.org that stores and replays snapshots of pages at web.archive.org. It fails in ways the rest of the library doesn't: snapshot pages can hang or 404 while archive.org itself still loads fine, and Save Page Now can stop accepting new captures while old snapshots replay normally. Because web.archive.org is a JavaScript app shell, the page returns a normal response even mid-outage and the error only appears once the app tries to fetch a capture — which is why DownRN checks the Wayback availability API directly instead of pinging the homepage.
How we know
We combine independent signals into one verdict. Here's what each source is reporting right now.

Frequently asked
Is Wayback Machine down right now?+
Right now, Wayback Machine appears to be operational. Wayback Machine doesn't publish a status page, so there's nothing official to read. Our own live check against its API is getting a normal response, so it appears to be working.
How can I tell if it's Wayback Machine or my own connection?+
DownRN runs an independent reachability check from our own servers. If our check passes but you still can't connect, the problem is more likely local — try a different network, clear your cookies, disable VPN/extensions, or use a different browser. If our check is failing too, it's more likely Wayback Machine's side.
What is Wayback Machine's server status right now?+
Wayback Machine is currently operational. Wayback Machine doesn't publish a status feed we can read, so DownRN determines its server status from an independent reachability check plus live community reports — refreshed every 60 seconds, and we never invent numbers.
Is there a Wayback Machine down detector?+
Yes — this page is a live Wayback Machine down detector. It aggregates real user reports, shows an outage map and recent incident history, runs an independent check from our own servers, and tells you whether Wayback Machine is down for everyone or just you — plus what else goes down with it. It's free, with no login, and DownRN never invents report numbers.
Is Wayback Machine down for everyone or just me?+
If lots of people are reporting problems here right now, Wayback Machine is down for everyone — not just you. If reports are quiet and our independent check passes, it's more likely on your end: try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, restarting the app, or clearing your cache. DownRN shows live report volume so you can tell the difference fast — and Wayback Machine's outage map shows which areas are affected.
Why is Wayback Machine slow or not working?+
Common causes are an upstream provider incident, API rate limits during peak demand, a regional CDN issue, or maintenance. Wayback Machine is currently operational. We show the official status, our independent check, and a confidence level so you can see which signals point to a real problem.
Is there a Wayback Machine outage today?+
Wayback Machine is currently operational. DownRN tracks Wayback Machine outages in real time and keeps a full outage history — see the live status above, and past Wayback Machine incidents with their durations and recovery times on the outage history page. We never invent outages.
What's wrong with Wayback Machine right now?+
Based on our checks, Wayback Machine is operational right now. The problems people report most are login, the feed, messaging or payments — see the live reports and the "what usually breaks" breakdown above for the specific surfaces affected, plus what else is going down with it.
Is Wayback Machine down in my area or region?+
Outages can be regional — a CDN, routing or ISP issue can hit one area while the rest of the world is fine. DownRN's Wayback Machine outage map shows where people are reporting problems right now, by country and US state, so you can see whether Wayback Machine is down in your area or everywhere.

Where is Wayback Machine's official status page?+
Wayback Machine doesn't publish a status page — there's no official dashboard or status feed to check. The closest thing is https://x.com/internetarchive, where Internet Archive posts outage updates by hand. That's why DownRN checks Wayback Machine directly instead: we read a live API endpoint that only responds when the service is genuinely working, and combine it with user reports.
